HBH vs SYD Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Jan 23, 2023
The top of the BBL ladder is starting to formulate as we can guarantee that the Sixers will make the playoffs. The Sixers are stronger than ever in the No. 2 spot and with 5 straight wins.
What’s less certain is if we’ll see Hobart in the post-season. After two straight losses and only 10 points, the Hurricanes are second-last and looking worse than ever.
HBH vs SYD Team Previews
Hobart Hurricanes
So, what happened to the Hurricanes? Tim David (326 total runs) and Matthew Wade (281) have been solid enough, and Caleb Jewell is usually dependable but scored only 31 runs in his last three games.
The biggest disappointments have been Zak Crawley (133) and Ben McDermott (181), who just haven’t scored enough to be helpful.
Although it’s hardly his fault, bowler Paddy Dooley has been in and out of the lineup with various injuries and can’t be relied upon. The team doesn’t look good to get out of seventh spot, but if there’s a chance it’ll be through Tim David and bowler Riley Meredith, who has been playing excellently lately with at least one wicket in his last five games (19 overall), but he hasn’t had much help.
Hobart Hurricanes Playing 11
Ben McDermott, Caleb Jewell, Zak Crawley, Timothy David, Matthew Wade, D'Arcy Short, Faheem Ashraf, Joel Paris, Nathan Ellis, Paddy Dooley, Riley Meredith.
Sydney Sixers
Why exactly was Steve Smith left off the Australian squad for the T20 World Cup? Smith made his second century of the BBL season in a crushing win over the Thunder, as the Aussie star batter totalled up a whopping 125* runs from 66 deliveries (5 fours and 9 sixes).
It’s baffling why Smith isn’t considered a T20 expert, given how great he’s playing, as he’s already made 262 runs from just three games! That’s far more than most BBL batters for the entire season.
No other Sixers batter needed to do much after Smith’s giant score, although it was nice to see Henriques with a solid 40 runs, as he was struggling a bit with batting lately.
After making 187 runs, the Sixers bowlers also performed brilliantly, as they absolutely demolished the Thunder for a measly 62 runs. It’s not as bad as the embarrassing 15 runs the Thunder made in the loss to Adelaide, but it’s pretty close.
Abbott was great as usual taking 3/11, and is the league leader with 23 wickets. Steve O’Keefe has been a big surprise, too, taking 4/10 and having 12 overall wickets. Nathan Lyon appears to be injured for a while longer, but the Sixers barely need him.
Sydney Sixers Playing 11
Josh Philippe, Steven Smith, Kurtis Patterson, Moises Henriques, Jordan Silk, Hayden Kerr, Daniel Christian, Ben Dwarshuis, Sean Abbott, Jackson Bird, Izharulhaq Naveed.

HBH vs SYD Betting Tips
Given the fact that the Sixers are on the up and the Hurricanes seem to be falling, we have to go with the momentum and believe that Sydney will pick up yet another win.
You just can’t bet against the Sixers when Smith and Abbott are playing this well, and Sydney is still motivated to play hard for a better spot in the playoffs. The odds are a bit lousy for the Sixers, but it’s still better than losing money on Hobart.
Bet on Sydney to win.

He's got one great performance left, we're sure.
Would you pick anyone else right now?
If Dooley is out, we trust Meredith far more.
Hard to pick another bowler with Abbott playing amazing at the moment.
