Hobart Hurricanes

The Hobart Hurricanes had lost their first two matches of the season but managed to turn things around last weekend as they defeated the Melbourne Renegades. They will now look to continue with the winning momentum.

Matthew Wade was in brilliant form at the top of the order as he slammed 82 of just 50 deliveries in the last match. He will look to give the Hurricanes a strong start alongside his opening partner Caleb Jewell. Macalister Wright, who was playing his first match of the season on Saturday, scored 63 and was in fine touch.

His partnership of 140 runs with Wade was instrumental in helping the Hurricanes chase down a target of 184 quite easily. However, the form of middle-order batsmen including Sam Hain, Corey Anderson, and Tim David hasn’t been the best and the team will need at least one of them to play well.

The bowling hasn’t been up to the mark too. Nathan Ellis is the leading wicket-taker with 3 wickets in as many matches, while Chris Jordan, Riley Meredith, and Anderson have taken 5 between them.

The spin department is a bit understaffed with Patrick Dooley being the only full-time spinner.

Hobart Hurricanes Playing 11

Matthew Wade, Caleb Jewell, Mac Wright, Sam Hain, Corey Anderson, Timothy David, Nikhil Chaudhary, Chris Jordan, Paddy Dooley, Nathan Ellis, Riley Meredith.

Melbourne Stars

Just like the Hurricanes, the Stars too endured a terrible start to their campaign as they lost their first 3 matches on the trot. However, they defeated the Sydney Sixers on Boxing Day to get their first points on the table.

The opening pair of Thomas Rogers and Sam Harper hasn’t been the most consistent and the visitors will need a good start from them. Harper is averaging 6.75 this season, while Rogers is slightly better at 16.00. The performance of Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis has been patchy too.

However, there are some positives for the team.

Hilton Cartwright scored 47 runs in the last match and is the leading run-scorer for his team. Beau Webster has proved to be a reliable all-rounder and will be a key player for his team. Webster and Usama Mir are the top wicket-takers for the team with 4 wickets each.

Haris Rauf bowled a brilliant spell in the last match as he picked up 3 wickets for 38 runs. With Imad Wasim available for this game, there will be a big boost in the middle order and the bowling setup.

HBH vs MLS Toss Prediction

The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Bellerive Oval is well-balanced. There will be plenty of help for the seamers early on in the match as the ball swings and seams around. The batsmen will need to be careful during the Powerplay and will need to get their eye in.

The average first-inning score on this ground is around 165. But the team batting first will aim for 180 to give the bowlers a fair chance, as the pitch gets easier to bat on in the second half.

The weather is likely to remain overcast but there isn’t much chance of rain. The temperature will remain below the 20-degree mark.

HBH vs MLS Betting Tips

Both the teams haven’t been in the best of forms this season but are coming into this contest on the back of a win. We feel that the Melbourne Stars have a better chance of winning here as they are stronger on paper. Also, the team performed well in the last match and their good head-to-head record against Hobart should give the team a psychological advantage.

Bet on the Melbourne Stars to win.

The pitch at the Bellerive Oval isn’t the easiest to bat on. While there are some good batsmen in both teams, we feel it won’t be easy for them to score the big runs, given the quality of the surface.

The opening pair of the Melbourne Stars hasn’t been in the best of forms. The highest partnership between Sam Harper and Thomas Rogers in 4 matches is 28. On the other hand, the opening pair for the Hurricanes, especially Matthew Wade, appears to be in good form.
