HBH vs ADS Match Prediction - Jan 02, 2023

The Adelaide Strikers will be fighting to keep themselves in the top half of the points table as they take on the Hobart Hurricanes in match number 26 of the Big Bash League.

With both teams playing rather inconsistently, one can get decent returns while backing either of the teams. Punters can even look towards placing side bets to maximize returns from this contest.

HBH vs ADS Team Previews

Hobart Hurricanes

The Hurricanes continued with their tradition in this season of alternating between a win and a loss, as they were defeated by a rampant Sydney Thunders team in the last match. With just 2 wins in the 5 matches played so far, the Hurricanes are 7th on the points table and will need to get a couple of wins to move into the top half.

In the last match, the Hurricanes invited Sydney Thunder to bat first but were caught in a dual onslaught by Alex Hales and Oliver Davies. Despite Nathan Ellis picking up 4 wickets, the Sydney Thunder batsmen continued to pummel the bowlers and posted a mammoth score of 228-6.

In reply, Matthew Wade played a gritty knock of 67 from just 30 deliveries but wickets continued to fall around him at regular intervals. The Hurricanes were eventually bundled out for 166 and lost the match by a huge margin of 62 runs. The bowlers have done a decent job for the Hurricanes as both, Patrick Dooley and Riley Meredith have picked up 9 wickets so far.

The batting has been a big letdown for the Hurricanes as except for Matthew Wade and Tim David, none of the batsmen have been able to make a significant impact on the proceedings.

Adelaide Strikers

The Strikers started their campaign on a great note, winning each of their first 3 matches and at one stage, were leading the points table quite comfortably. However, they saw a sudden dip in form and have now lost 3 consecutive matches and find themselves struggling to stay in the top 4.

The Strikers’ latest match, played against the Melbourne Stars was a pretty close affair. Asked to bowl first, the Adelaide Strikers bowlers weren’t able to tie down the likes of Stoinis and Joe Clarke as the Stars put up a huge score of 186-7.

Wes Agar picked up 3 wickets while Henry Thornton added 2 to his kitty. The chase began on shaky ground as the Strikers lost their star batsmen, Matthew Short and Chris Lynn pretty cheaply. However, Henry Hunt and Adam Hose steadied the innings by putting together a 74-run partnership for the 3rd wicket.

Hose went on to score his maiden BBL half-century and took his team within a striking distance of the target. Rashid Khan played an excellent cameo toward the end but the home team eventually fell short by 7 runs.

The Strikers now have a good opportunity to get back to winning ways as they face an out-of-form Hurricanes team.

Pitch and Conditions

The Bellerive Oval is an excellent ground to bat on due to the consistent bounce off the pitch. The quicker bowlers will get some assistance in the beginning but as the match progresses, the spinners will come into play. The average first innings score here is between 160-170.

There is a forecast for rain on Monday which may lead to some delays. The temperature will range from 20-27 degrees Celsius.

HBH vs ADS Betting Tips

Both teams have lacked consistency this season and have seen some wild swings in their performances. This makes it a pretty difficult game to call. While the Adelaide Strikers have a stronger batting line-up, it is the bowlers who have majorly contributed towards the success of the Hurricanes.

Most betting sites are giving shorter odds for a Hurricanes’ victory but we feel it might be worth betting against them.

The excellent batting track at Hobart will give the strong batting line-up of the Adelaide Strikers an added advantage, who are better poised to exploit the conditions.

Thornton has taken 16 wickets in 6 matches so far this season and is the leading wicket-taker in the tournament. He has emerged to be the top bowler for the Strikers in 3 of the 6 matches played so far. The pitch at Bellerive Oval is conducive for the quicker bowlers and given the poor form of opposition batsmen, we feel that Thornton will once again emerge as the top bowler for the Strikers.
