GGT vs MIE Match Prediction - Feb 10, 2023

The MI Emirates will face off against the Gulf Giants this Friday in Dubai, as they vie for a spot in the Finals to be played on Sunday against the Desert Vipers.

The Giants defeated the MI Emirates once earlier this season during the group stage and will be looking for a repeat performance, while Emirates will be hoping to exact revenge in this knockout match.

GGT vs MIE Team Previews

Gulf Giants

The Gulf Giants were clinical in their performance during the group stages, topping the table with just 1 defeat in 7 matches. However, they faltered against the Desert Vipers during the 1st Qualifier, losing to them by 19 runs.

Nevertheless, they still have a shot at making it to the Finals.

The team will depend on James Vince and Chris Lynn to give them a good start, with the former being the top scorer for them in this tournament. Shimron Hetmeyer has been pretty consistent in the middle order, scoring 2 half-centuries in 8 innings, and will be looking to play big innings here.

Carlos Brathwaite has only recently joined the squad and hasn’t done much with the bat, but he will still play an important role here thanks to his all-round abilities. Colin de Grandhomme has failed to impress in his 2 outings so far. The seamers, Chris Jordan and David Weise have done a brilliant job for their team and are the top two bowlers in this tournament.

They will be supported by Dominic Drakes and Sanchit Sharma, as well as the all-rounders Grandhomme and Brathwaite. However, the Gulf Giants appear to be severely lacking in the spin department at the moment.

MI Emirates

The MI Emirates has endured a tumultuous journey so far this season. The team was rather inconsistent during the group stages but did enough to finish at the 3rd spot on the table to set up a date with the Dubai Capitals in the Eliminator.

Opting to bowl first, Emirates managed to restrict the Capitals to 151, thanks to some disciplined bowling. Rashid Khan, playing his first match of the season, bowled a brilliant spell, taking 2 wickets for 20 runs. The team will be relieved to see their premier fast bowler, Trent Boult, finally manage to get some good form as he too picked up 2 wickets.

The team has plenty of options in the seam department, including Fazalhaq Farooqi, Zahoor Khan, and Dwayne Bravo. In the second innings, Emirates lost Muhammad Waseem in the first over itself. However, Andre Fletcher continued with his superb form and scored his 3rd half-century of the season. He received excellent support from Nicholas Pooran as Emirates chased down the target with 8 wickets in hand.

In addition to the top order, the team has a strong finisher in the form of Kieron Pollard and will be banking on him to play a big inning here.

GGT vs MIE Toss Prediction

The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first here.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

The Dubai International Stadium has a flat surface which is excellent to bat on, especially during the first innings.

There is hardly any movement for the seamers and the batsmen find it easy to play their shots. The average first-inning score here is about 165-170 runs.

However, the pitch does tend to slow down as the game progresses, and the spinners will be able to get some turn, making it a bit difficult for the batsmen. There is no chance of rain and the temperature will remain quite pleasant at around 20 degrees Celsius.

GGT vs MIE Betting Tips

While the MI Emirates did seem to struggle a bit during the group stages, they have a much stronger team, especially within the batting department. Most of their top and middle-order batsmen are in good form and are capable of taking on the attack to the opposition.

On the other hand, the Giants are overtly dependent on James Vince and Shimron Hetmeyer to score runs, as the rest of the batsmen have failed to score consistently. Due to this reason, we feel that Emirates holds the upper hand here.

Bet on the MI Emirates to win.

    Top Bowler for MI Emirates

    Rashid Khan (3.50)

Rashid Khan has only recently joined the MI Emirates squad and is in excellent form right from the word go, picking up 2 wickets in his first match of the season. He is carrying good form from his recent stint in the SA20 and is likely to play an important role in this match. We are therefore backing him to be the top bowler for the Emirates, especially if they bat first.
