ENGW vs NZW Team Previews

England Women

The England Women’s team has been on a roll in this series. After winning the WODI series comfortably, they are now on track to claim the T20 series as well.

Maia Bouchier has been in red-hot form at the top of the order and her opening partnership with Danielle Wyatt is likely to set a strong foundation for the middle-order batters to build upon. Alice Capsey and Nat Sciver-Brunt have put up an all-round performance and are likely to yet again play an important role in this match.

While Heather Knight and Amy Jones haven’t done much with the bat, it is just a matter of time before they bounce back. The bowling attack is pretty well-balanced as well. Charlotte Dean has picked up 2 wickets in each of her last two outings and will be joined by Sophie Ecclestone and Sarah Glenn in the spin department.

While Nat Sciver-Brunt and Lauren Bell haven’t been able to take many wickets, their miserly bowling has put a lot of pressure on the New Zealand batters.

New Zealand Women

After suffering a whitewash in the WODI series, the New Zealand women were hoping to salvage some pride in the shortest format. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case so far and they will be fighting to stay alive.

It has been a disappointing performance from all players of the team. Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine are two of the most experienced players on the squad but have failed to get going so far. Coming to the middle order, while Jess Kerr and Brooke Halliday have got off to decent starts, they have failed to convert them into big knocks.

The poor performances continue with the bowlers as well. Barring Lea Tahuhu, none of the bowlers have managed to have much of an impact on the proceedings.

Tahuhu has picked up 4 wickets in 2 matches and will feature in the pace department along with Hannah Rowe and Jess Kerr. Amelia Kerr picked up 2 wickets in the last match but she was very expensive.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at St. Lawrence Ground in Canterbury is well-balanced. The bowlers will get some help during the first inning as the ball swings around. The batters will need to be careful while selecting their shots. However, things do get easier for them as the match progresses. A score of around 150 can be considered a par score on this surface.

The weather is likely to be overcast with temperatures of below 20 degrees.

The pitch at the St. Lawrence Stadium isn’t the easiest to bat on. There is plenty of help available for the bowlers and with the kind of batting we have seen, especially from the visitors, we are unlikely to witness a high-scoring match.

Charlotte Dean has bowled well in her recent games. She has picked up at least 2 wickets in 4 of her last 5 International matches and was the top bowler for her team in the last match. Looking at the potential returns, it is worth risking a punt on her.
