ENG vs BAN Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Oct 10, 2023

England and Bangladesh will contest the seventh match of the 2023 Cricket World Cup. The English and Tigers currently occupy fifth and eighth position, respectively, in the International Cricket Council's rankings for ODI teams.

England suffered a heavy nine-wicket defeat to New Zealand earlier in the tournament, while Bangladesh beat Afghanistan comfortably by six wickets. Let's see what the betting odds and cricket markets have in store for this match.

England vs Bangladesh head-to-head record

England have four wins to Bangladesh's one in their last five ODI meetings. That single victory for Bangladesh is the most recent result between the two teams, though. That was as recently as March 2023. Overall, England have beaten Bangladesh 19 times in ODI cricket - and Bangladesh have beaten England on five occasions.

ENG vs BAN Team Previews

England

England's attempt to start their title defence with victory went awry against New Zealand, who ensured the reigning Cricket World Cup champions looked ordinary in Ahmedabad. A few days later in Dharamsala, captain Jos Buttler and company have the opportunity to get their campaign on track.

Dawid Malan and Buttler have been England's leading run-scorers in ODI cricket this year. Malan has collected 605 runs in 10 innings for an average of 67.22, while Buttler has 591 in 11 at 59.10. Malan and Buttler scored 14 and 43, respectively, against the Black Caps recently.

Bowling-wise, Adil Rashid and Sam Curran have been England's leading wicket-takers in ODI cricket in 2023. Rashid has taken 15 wickets in eight ODIs and Curran 13 in nine. Rashid was among the least costly bowlers against the Kiwis, while Curran took England's only wicket in the match.

England are waiting on the fitness of Ben Stokes. He missed the match against New Zealand - and whether he is available for selection against Bangladesh remains in the balance. Even if the all-rounder plays as just a specialist batter, Stokes is a huge asset. He hit a record-breaking 182 in an ODI against New Zealand last month.

England Playing 11

Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood, Reece Topley.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh could be considered among the minnows at this World Cup, alongside Netherlands and Afghanistan. But Bangladesh are a formidable unit in sub-continental conditions and, especially after their big defeat to New Zealand, England cannot afford to underestimate them.

Their bowlers effectively set up their opening win at this tournament against Afghanistan - and the batters were hardly tested in pursuit of a modest 157-run target. Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Miraz took three wickets each - and could be key here as well.

Bangladesh will want more from Taskin Ahmed, though. He is their top wicket-taker in ODI cricket this year with 22 in 12 matches, but proved expensive and off colour against Afghanistan. Fellow opening bowler Shoriful Islam, however, was largely on point - and showed why he is averaging two wickets per ODI in 2023.

With Tamim Iqbal not around, Bangladesh's batting resources have been stretched. Najmul Shanto is the sixth-highest ODI run-scorer among all countries this year - and spearheaded the successful pursuit against Afghanistan with a solid 59 not out. Al Hasan, as one of the most experienced all-rounders at this Cricket World Cup, will have a big role to play with the bat as well.

Bangladesh Playing 11

Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Towhid Hridoy, Mahedi Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman.

ENG vs BAN Toss Prediction

The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala is relatively has hosted five ODIs. Four of those have been won by the team batting second. This suggests the team to win the toss will likely opt to bowl first and chase later.

The first four matches of the 2023 Cricket World Cup produced an even split of two wins for the team that batted first and two for the side that batted second. Interestingly, all four toss-winning captains chose to bowl first - and only 50 percent of those decisions resulted in victory.

Pitch and Conditions

This is a relatively low-scoring venue in ODI cricket. The average first-innings score here is 203 - and that is inflated by the 330 India recorded against West Indies in 2014. A first-innings score of 250 could be considered competitive.

Bangladesh and England have played one ODI each here. Bangladesh have very recent experience here - against Afghanistan a few days ago. The last time England played an ODI here was in 2013.

Conditions suggest it's well worth fielding two specialist spinners in Dharamsala - and perhaps squeezing a few overs out of one of them during the opening powerplay.

The weather forecast on matchday in Dharamsala shows rain, but probably not enough - if any - to shorten this fixture. We should get a full one in. Humidity levels will be characteristicall high.

ENG vs BAN Betting Tips

Yes, England lost to New Zealand and don't have the momentum Bangladesh collected in victory over Afghanistan. But beating the defending champions is probably a bridge too far for Bangladesh. England's dominant batting department, especially if Stokes is back, should prove too much for the opposition bowlers.

England are priced as 1.20 favourites to win this match. Bangladesh are offered as 4.85 favourites. Betting on them to win this fixture is riskier, but at these long odds, could bring good value.
