The 2023 edition of the Lanka Premier League could not have gotten off to a better start. We are only two days into the tournament and have already seen a match go right down to the wire. Dambulla Aura and Galle Titans produced a cracker of a contest before Galle Titans sealed the deal in the super-over. If the match presented the signs of things to come, we are going to be in for a roller-coaster ride.
All sides have already played at least a match each and would be in a better-position tactically in the subsequent matches they play. Jaffna Kings have so far been the best and will be looking to maintain their supremacy when they take on Dambulla Aura in the next game of the tournament. Even though the latter are coming off a lost, they would still be very upbeat given how close they were.
The match between the two sides is to be played at the R Premadasa Cricket Ground on Tuesday, 1st August 2023. As was the last match that the Aura played, expect a lot of fireworks in this match as well.

Dambulla Giants
Despite losing the match, Dambulla Aura will not be too disappointed. They were never the favorites to win and the fact that they brought it to the super-over was commendable. Not that they have shown what they are capable of, they are going to be a challenging side to beat. At the moment, they stand at the fourth spot on the ladder and will be looking to rise up from here.
Chasing a total of 181 against the Galle Titans, the Aura had a shaky start, losing two wickets for just two runs in the second over. Dhananjaya de Silva and Kusal Perera then formed a 76-run partnership for the third wicket to bring their side back into the game. Perera scored 40 off 35 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes, before getting out in the 10th over. De Silva, who scored 43 off 31 balls with five fours and a six, was dismissed in the 12th over. The Aura lost two more wickets quickly, but Alex Ross provided a glimmer of hope with a quick 39 not out off 28 balls, falling just one run short of victory.
Just as the match went down the super over and Dambulla Over scored nine for the loss of one wicket, Galle Titans secured a thrilling super-over win, moving to second in the LPL standings, while Dambulla Aura remained at fourth. All in all, Dambulla Aura may have punched above their weight, they still had plenty of steam left. Their openers, in particular Avishka Fernando, didn’t score any. If they can get that in order, they will be a very tough side to deal with with the strengths they have.

Jaffna Kings
Jaffna Kings finished their last year’s campaign as the winners and the defending champions did not disappoint their fans as they got off to a solid start. The Kings decided to bat first and achieved a commendable total of 173/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Towhid Hridoy's impressive knock - scoring a half-century was instrumental in boosting their score, as he top-scored with 54 runs off 39 balls, a knock that included four fours and a six. Additionally, Dunith Wellalage, Priyamal Perera, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz also made significant contributions through nice cameos to add to the team's total. Furthermore, Thisara Perera, the Kings' skipper, played a crucial role at the end, scoring 14 runs off seven balls with the help of three boundaries. With the ball, it was Hardus Viljoen who led the bowling attack for the Jaffna Kings as he returned impressive figures of 3/31. He was ably assisted by Vijayakanth Viyaskanth and Dilshan Madushanka, who picked a couple of wickets each.
All in all, In the 2023 tournament opener, the defending champions showcased their dominance. They posted a solid total batting first and their bowlers effectively utilized the conditions in the second innings. Perera and Vijolen both employed the short ball effectively, with the former adding variations and the latter relying on pace. Viyaskanth's leg-spinners turned to be pretty effective as well as he found significant spin and bounce, leading to him taking two wickets while maintaining an economy rate of 4.25 runs per over. Notably, Madushanka made a crucial breakthrough by dismissing Dickwella, who was the only steady batter for Colombo during the initial phase of their chase.
On paper, Jaffna Kings look a solid team with batting as well as bowling doing remarkably well. They have been super good in their last few matches and would want to continue doing that. If they can continue performing the way they did against the Colombo Strikers, Dambulla Aura will have their work cut out.

It's expected to be a mostly cloudy day with sun peeling out adding to the warmth. The temperature is expected to be in the late twenties, making it an excellent day to play cricket. With no chances of rain and dew, batting second might well be tough here. Expect the captain winning the toss to bat first.

Pitch and Conditions
Owing to a few cool days, the surface hasn't broken as much as it was expected. It's been a lot better for the bowlers and although the ball has taken some turn, the surfaces used have not been slow. Since we are only a couple of days into the tournament, we don't expect it to differ a lot in this match as well. Batsmen once set can relish the scoring opportunities and fast outfield means that batsmen will get value for their grounded shots. Considering that and the other factors, the team batting first would want to put at least 175 runs on the board.
DHG vs JSK Betting Tips
The two sides are coming off contrasting results and will likely produce a cracker of a contest. Dambulla Aura still have plenty of voids that they would want to fill whereas Jaffna Kings had all bases covered in their opening match. On paper, Jaffna Kings appear to be a slightly better-balanced team with players available to suit the conditions. Also, they are coming off a win and have the momentum. For that reason, a bet on Jaffna Kings should be the way to go here.
Bonus Cricket Bets
The surfaces have been unexpectedly good and that is the primary reason of team totals being more than what was expected before the tournament started. Both these sides have excellent hitters and we can expect an above-par score here. Bet on match total to exceed 319.
Dhananjay de Silva was excellent in the last match and his ability to contribute in both departments of the game makes him a match-winner. He bats high up the order and is likely to bowl his complete quota on a surface favoring spinners. A perfect candidate to get the player of the match in our opinion. Certainly worth betting.
Vijaykanth Viyaskanth was superb in the last game, utilizing the conditions perfectly to his advantage. He is likely to thrive here as well. Bet on him to be the best bowler of the day from the Jaffna Kings' camp.
