Dambulla Giants

The Dambulla Aura team is on a roll at the moment and has won all their last 5 games in the competition in a row. In the 19th game of the Lanka Premier League for this season, they took on B-Love Kandy. This was the last match they played in the competition. This contest was played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Batting first in this game, Dambulla Aura scored 162 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. The B-Love Kandy outfit could manage just 142 runs all out from 19.4 overs in their reply. Aura recorded a win by a margin of 20 runs.

The foundation for a good score for Dambulla was laid by their openers Avishka Fernando and Sadeera Samarawickrama who also doubles up as their wicketkeeper. Fernando scored 41 runs from 27 balls with 3 sixes and 3 fours. Sadeera Samarawickrama hit 31 runs from 26 balls with 6 fours. But the real push to the Dambulla innings was provided by Ben McDermott and Hayden Kerr. Ben McDermott hit 37 runs from 23 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Hayden Kerr also contributed a quick 26 towards the end of the innings with 3 fours and 1 six to take Dambulla to a good score.

The Dambulla bowler Dhananjaya de Silva made quick inroads in the B-Love Kandy innings when they began their run chase. Both the Kandy openers were back in the pavilion in the second over of their innings. Dinesh Chandimal played well for B-Love Kandy scoring a patient fifty from 46 balls with 6 fours. The most successful bowler for Dambulla Aura was Dhananjaya de Silva. He picked up 4 victims from just 2 overs giving away 6 runs only. He was ably supported by Pramod Madushan who picked up 2 wickets for 27 runs.

Galle Gladiators

The Galle Titans are also going into this game after a couple of victories in their last 2 matches. This 20th game of the LPL was also played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday. The Galle Titans bowling attack performed an exceptional job by bundling out Colombo Strikers for a paltry total of 74 runs. In their reply, the Galle top-order batsmen made short work of the target and chased it with as many as 8 wickets and 69 balls to spare. Tabraiz Shamsi was the pick of the bowlers for Galle and was adjudged player of the match.

The Colombo Strikers' innings was in trouble straight away when their openers lost their wickets to Lahiru Kumara. The Colombo middle order did offer some resistance to the Galle bowlers but none of them could go on and play a big innings that could have set the tone for the innings. In the end, the entire Colombo team was bowled out for a score of 74 runs from 15.4 overs. Tabraiz Shamsi was the pick of the bowlers for Galle, picking up 4 wickets for 20 runs from his 4 overs. He not only picked up wickets but also bowled economically for Galle.

Lahiru Kumara was responsible for the slide though picking up the openers for 9 runs from his 2 overs. But the best support bowler for Galle was Seekkuge Prasanna who picked up 3 wickets for 14 runs from his 3 overs. Both Shamsi and Prasanna were brought on to bowl last during the Colombo innings. The only other successful bowler in the Galle innings was Shakib Al Hasan who picked up one wicket for 8 runs from his 3.4 overs. Although he picked up just a single wicket, he performed a good restriction job in the Colombo innings.
