Chepauk Super Gillies

The Chepauk Super Gillies played their last game in the TNPL against Nellai Royal Kings yesterday in Salem. In this day/night encounter, NRK defeated the Chepauk Super Gillies pretty easily be a margin of 9 wickets and 7 balls to spare. The Chepauk Super Gillies team batted first in this game and scored 159 runs for the loss of 7 wickets from their quota of 20 overs. But the Nellai Riyal Kings chased down this total easily in 18.5 overs thanks to a brilliant hundred by Arun Karthik who remained not out on 104 runs from 61 balls.

The Chepauk Super Gillies team managed to reach a score of 159 thanks mainly to the heroics of their skipper Baba Aprajith. Baba Aparajith hammered 79 runs from 51 balls with 5 sixes and 4 fours. Several other batsmen from the Chepauk outfit managed to get a start but could not convert it into big scores. Some of these batsmen include Narayan Jagadeesan, Sanjay Yadav, Harish Kumar, and Uthiraswamy Sasidev. The pick of the bowlers for the Nellai team was M Poiyamozhi. He picked up 3 wickets for 25 runs from his 4 overs.

The Nellai Royal Kings skipper Arun Karthik was in splendid form during the game and scored an unbeaten hundred with 5 sixes and 10 fours. He was involved in a half-century partnership for the first wicket and another one for the second wicket with Rithik Easwaran. Although both these support batters got out, early the captain ensured that he remained at the crease till the end when they crossed the line. Although the Chepauk bowlers Rocky Bhasker and M Silambarasan picked up a wicket apiece none of the bowlers could make much of an impression on Aprajith and co.

Madurai Panthers

The Siechem Madurai Panthers also played their last match of the competition yesterday against Salem Spartans. Batting first the Salem Spartans could manage 98 runs all out in their stipulated 20 overs. They were bowled out in 19.3 overs. The wrecker-in-chief for Madurai Panthers was Gurjepneet Singh who picked up 3 wickets for 15 runs. This was the 15th match of TNPL 2023 and was also played in Salem. The Madurai Panthers made light work of this pathetic total set by Salem and won the game ins 13 overs with 7 wickets to spare.

The Salem batting lineup got off to a disastrous start and never quite recovered from it to get bowled out for a small total of 98 runs. The top run-getter for Salem was the skipper Abhishek Tanwar who scored 29 runs from 18 balls with 2 fours and two sixes towards the end of the inning. Gurjapneet Singh led the bowling charge for Madurai Panthers picking up 3 wickets for 15 runs from his 4 overs. Some of the other bowlers that contributed to the downfall of Salem batsmen were V Gowtham and Murugan Ashwin who picked up 2 wickets apiece.

With this modest target to chase, the Siechem Madurai Panthers got off to a poor start. Their openers were back in the pavilion before much of a score was put on the board. But the Madurai middle order held firm and took the team across the line easily in the end. The top run-scorer for Madurai was Sri Abisek who made 32 not out from 28 balls with 1 six and 2 fours. He was well supported by Jagatheesan Koushik and later by Swapnil Singh who contributed 21 and 25 runs respectively.
