CS vs CK Match Prediction - Dec 30, 2022

The Central Stags will be searching for their first win of the season as they take on the Canterbury Kings on Friday in the Super Smash.

As the Kings haven’t had the best of starts to the season, one can find pretty good odds for both teams while sifting through some of the reputed betting sites. There are also several side bets that one can place to increase returns.

While they will be disappointed with the eventual outcome, the Stags played extremely well in their opening match against Wellington.

The Stags opted to bowl first but things didn’t go according to plan as Wellington crossed the 80-run mark inside the Power Play. While Tom Bruce and Jayden Lennox picked up 2 wickets each, the opposition batsmen continued to pummel them, putting a mammoth target of 215 for the Stags.

The chase wasn’t off to the best of starts as opener Greg Hay fell cheaply. However, Ben Smith and Dane Cleaver laid a good foundation, putting up 54 runs for the second wicket. Later on, Tom Bruce, who put up an excellent all-round performance, and Josh Clarkson put up a brilliant 79-run partnership to get the hosts tantalizingly close to the target but the Stags fell short by just 2 runs as they failed to garner any points from this game.

However, as they play their second consecutive match at home, the Stags will be hoping for a better outcome this time around.

Canterbury Kings

The Kings have reached the Finals in each of the last 2 seasons and have one of the strongest teams in the league as of now. They defeated the Braves in the opening match but come into this contest on the back of a defeat against the Auckland Aces.

Apart from Chad Bowes and Matthew Boyle, none of the batsmen have made a significant contribution to the Canterbury line-up. Bowes has scored a half-century in both innings so far, while Boyle played a gritty inning of 30 in the last game against the Aces.

The opening pair put up a partnership of 72 in just 6 overs in that game, but the middle order suffered a collapse and the team could manage to put just 147 on the board. In the second innings, Henry Shipley and Angus McKenzie picked up 2 wickets each but that wasn’t nearly enough to prevent the Aces, who crossed the line with 3 deliveries to spare.

However, there are early days in the tournament and the Kings will surely look to bounce back soon.

CS vs CK Toss Prediction

The winner of the toss will likely prefer to bat first here to get a big score on the board and put the opposition under pressure.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at Pukekura Park is pretty flat and good to bat on as the even bounce makes it easy for the batsmen to score runs. The boundaries too are on the smaller side, and we can surely expect some fireworks during the game. The average first innings score in Super Smash here is between 175-180.

The spinners are unlikely to get much help here but the quicker bowlers will get some good movement off the pitch. The weather is expected to be quite windy and humid, with temperatures ranging from 14-24 degrees Celsius.

CS vs CK Betting Tips

Both teams are entering this contest on the back of a defeat. However, the Stags will be feeling quite confident as they almost chased down a huge total. Their top and middle-order batsmen seem to be in decent form. On the other hand, the Kings’ batting hasn’t fired yet and they are likely to keep struggling. While the odds on offer for an away win are shorter, we feel it is worth risking a wager on the home team.

Bet on Central Stags to win.

Henry Shipley has picked up 4 wickets so far this season and is the leading wicket-taker for Canterbury. In both the matches that they have played so far, Shipley has picked up 2 wickets and was the top wicket-taker for them. We think that Shipley will be quite effective on the bouncy pitch of Pukekura Park, and will once again pick the maximum wickets.
