BRW vs GAWW Team Previews

Barbados Women

The Barbados Royals W made it to the Finals in the last season but suffered heartbreak in the finals as they were defeated by the Trinbago Knight Riders. Led by the indomitable Hayley Matthews, the Royals will look to put the loss behind them and make a winning start to the fresh campaign.

Matthews was the leading run-getter as well as the leading wicket-taker for the Royals last season and will undoubtedly be the most vital cog in the team. In addition to Matthews, the team has quite a few talented all-rounders including Afy Fletcher, Marizanne Kapp, Gaby Lewis, and Chinelle Henry. Laura Harris is likely to open the batting alongside Matthews, while Rashada Williams and Trishan Holder will try and stabilize the middle order.

Coming to the bowling, the team has a lot of variety when it comes to the seamers. Aaliyah Alleyne, Qiana Joseph, and Jannillea Glasgow have international experience and can play an important role with the new ball as well as at the death. Amanda Jade-Wellington and Vanessa Watts are the two specialist spinners on the team.

Guyana Amazon Warriors Women

The Guyana Amazon Warriors were the only team that remained winless last season and failed to make it to the finals. It was a poor effort from them in all departments and will hope to turn things around this season.

The Amazon Warriors have retained some of the key players from the last season, including skipper Stefanie Taylor, Shemaine Campbelle, Shabika Gajnabi, and Cherry-Ann Fraser. They have also brought in reinforcements in the form of some quality overseas players and will bank on them to put up a good performance.

Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine have been in good form of late and can contribute well with the bat as well as the ball. Shabnim Ismail is one of South Africa’s most experienced seamers and is likely to begin with the new ball, while Shreyanka Patil, who is the first Indian to sign up for the WCPL, will add variety to the spin attack.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Kensington Oval is balanced. There will be help for the quicker bowlers early on in the game. The ball will move off the seam and there will also be some swing through the air. The batsmen will need to settle down before they can start playing the big shots. A score of around 130 is a par score.

The weather is expected to be cloudy with warm and humid conditions.
