BR vs TKR Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Aug 30, 2023
Barbados Royals and Trinbago Knight Riders will contest the 13th match of the 2023 Caribbean Premier League. The Knight Riders currently occupy fourth position in the six-team standings after one win, one loss and one washout. Barbados are in fifth position with the same results as Trinbago.
Both teams will go into this match after winning their most recent fixtures. Trinbago outdid the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Barbados also got on the board by beating the Patriots. Let's see what the betting odds have in store for this encounter between the Royals and Knight Riders.
Barbados Royals vs Trinbago Knight Riders head-to-head record
Trinbago have won three and Barbados two of their last five meetings. The Knight Riders had won three in a row prior to last season's CPL. In 2022, though, the Royals won both their clashes with Trinbago.

Barbados Royals
Barbados were runners-up in the 2022 CPL and are attempting to go one better this season by winning their first title. All-rounders Nyeem Young and Rovman Powell have emerged as Barbados' leading run-scorers so far this season. Powell was particularly impressive with a match-winning 67 not out against St Kitts and Nevis recently.
Bowling-wise, complenting spin with seam has been working well enough for the Royals. Former West Indies captain Jason Holder is at the forefront of the seaming stocks, while Afghanistan's Qais Ahmad is their in-form spinner. Conditions in Bridgetown could play into their hands.
Barbados will have to navigate this match without South African recruit Donovan Ferreira. He has returned home to be with the Proteas for their T20I series against Australia. Ferreira kept wicket against the St Lucia Kings earlier this month, but local talent Kevin Wickham has since assumed the role.
Barbados Royals Playing 11
Rovman Powell, Kyle Mayers, Jason Holder, Obed McCoy, Rahkeem Cornwall, RE Van Der Merwe, Qais Ahmad, Laurie Evans, Alick Athanaze, Kevin Omar Wickham, Nyeem Young.
Trinbago Knight Riders
The Knight Riders are the most successful team in the history of the CPL with four titlles and could be well poised to capitalise against a Barbados team that have two matches in quick succession. The Royals have to face Jamaica Tallawahs a day after meeting Trinbago.
The experienced Kieron Pollard and Nicholas Pooran have been Trinbago's leading run-scorers this season. They haven't really been in superb form, but there is plenty of potential for them to go relatively big against Barbados. All-rounder Andre Russell and New Zealand recruit Martin Guptill should also be at hand.
Any team whose bowling resources include Russell, fellow seamer Dwayne Bravo and spinner Sunil Narine must be considered match favourites. Bravo has taken the most wickets in the history of T20 cricket, while Narine has bamboozled batters around the world for many years. Narine and Bravo shared the only five Partiots wickets to fall in the Knight Riders' most recent win.
Trinbago Knight Riders Playing 11
Martin Guptill, Mark Deyal, Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine, Akeal Hosein, Tom Curran, Lorcan Tucker, Waqar Salamkheil.
BR vs TKR Toss Prediction
This will be the first 2023 CPL match at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown. The venue did not host CPL matches last season. Going on what happened in Basseterre and Gros Islet earlier this season, the team to win the toss will likely choose to bowl first and chase later.
That said, the last four T20I at this venue have been won by the team batting first. Several players, including Pollard, Powell and Pooran, involved in this match played for West Indies against England here last year. The hosts won that fixture.

Pitch and Conditions
First-innings scores of 170-odd have bee competitive during the 2023 CPL. It will be interesting to see if that average remains reasonable in Bridgetown - or needs to be higher. The pitches should be fresh and potentially full of runs, especially during the opening powerplay.
The weather forecast suggests plenty of rain in Barbados on matchday. While skies were clear and conditions dry in Basseterre, it looks like the tournament will endure showers this time. Let's hope we get a full match in here, or at least a shortened one.
BR vs TKR Betting Tips
Trinbago remain in pursuit of a fifth CPL title and another win here should help this ambition. The Knight Riders have several world-class all-rounders and ample specialist batters and bowlers in support.
Barbados will be hard pressed to put one over Russell, Pollard, Narine, Bravo and company. Big-name players such as Holder are going to have to really step up here if the Royals are to stand a chance.
Bet on the Knight Riders as the match favourites at 1.62, or underdogs Barbados at 2.35. Betway also have some interesting markets for betting on who will win the toss and the match.
Bonus Cricket Bets
Pooran was named Player of the Match after hitting 61 not out against the Partiots recently. He was Trinbago's top-scorer in that match and is a good pick for the same mantle this time.
There are several excellent wrist spinners in the 2023 CPL. Ahmad is arguably among the best. He has taken two wickets in each of his 2023 CPL appearances so far. He might only need that many to be Barbados' top bowler in this match.
Nobody has hit a century in the 2023 CPL so far. The highest individual score has been 81. There were three tons in the 2022 CPL. With the pitch and conditions in Bridgetown fresh, this match could yield the first centurion of the CPL season.
