BR vs SNP Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Sep 04, 2023

Barbados Royals and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots will contest the 18th match of the 2023 Caribbean Premier League. The Royals and Patriots currently occupy fifth and sixth position, respectively, in the six-team CPL standings.

Both teams are struggling to stay in contention for the next stage of the tournament. A win for Barbados would push them into the top half of the table. Victory for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots would keep them at the bottom, regardless.

This match should be highly entertaining, with plenty of local and international talent on show. Let's see what the cricket betting odds and markets have in store.

Barbados Royals vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots head-to-head record

The Royals have won three of their last five meetings with the Patriots. This includes three consecutive wins across the 2022 CPL and their first meeting this season. The last time St Kitts and Nevis beat Barbados was in 2021.

Barbados Royals

The Royals have two wins and as many defeats to show for their last four matches. They haven't really managed to string together genuine consistency, but the signs are there of an improved campaign after a rather checkered start. A win over the Patriots could begin to push them into the running for the play-offs, but there is still a long road ahead.

Some weak batting was exposed against the St Lucia Kings again recently. The Royals need more from opener Rakheem Cornwall and Kyle Mayers and, if they're not going to fire, a middle order including Rovman Powell and England recruit Laurie Evans must step up instead.

Local talent Alick Athanaze is Barbados' leading run-scorer in the 2023 CPL so far. But he has only collected 112 runs in four innings, which shows just how light the Royals have been on runs. It might be time for them to consider playing another specialist batter ahead of a bowler or all-rounder.

Bowling-wise, Barbados have two of the top six wicket-takers in this season's CPL so far. Seamer Jason Holder and spinner Qais Ahmed have shared 17 wickets. Holder has the most overall with 10. There would be even more pressure on them to perform if Barbados forsake a bowling option for an additional batting component.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

St Kitts and Nevis have just two points to show for their first seven matches of the 2023 CPL. Those were collected from two washouts at the start of the season before five consecutive defeats followed. They'll be desperate to avoid a sixth loss in a row here and finally get on the board.

The Patriots' most recent defeat was to the Guyana Amazon Warriors, who bowled them out for a mere 88. England duo Will Smeed and Benny Howell, who joined the squad recently, failed to add impetus with the bat. If Smeed and Howell are retained in the XI, this could be their cue to repay the faith shown in them by St Kitts and Nevis.

The 19-year-old Johann Laynne is a promising prospect for the Patriots with the ball. He was relatively expensive and did not take a wicket against Guyana, but there is plenty of potential there for St Kitts and Nevis to work with. They'd do well to give him another chance with the new ball again.

Fellow seamer Dominic Drakes was deployed as a third-change bowler against the Amazon Warriors. The Patriots, too, could consider bowling him sooner, given the need for early breakthroughs during the opening powerplay. He could do particularly well in the second innings, if openers Evin Lewis, Andre Fletcher and other Patriots batters have put up an imposing target.

BR vs SNP Toss Prediction

No captain won the toss and chose to bat first in the first four matches of the Bridgetown leg of the 2023 CPL. Interestingly, only one of those decisions at the flip of the coin yielded victory. Choosing to bowl first and chased later has effectively backfired.

Whoever wins the toss this time might again look to defy evidence and bat second. Doing this allows teams to know their target and, if wickets are in hand, set the pace of the pursuit accordingly.

Pitch and Conditions

This will be the sixth and final match of the 2023 CPL in Barbados before the tournament moves to Port of Spain and later Tarouba and Providence. The playing strip is probably getting tired and slower.

The Kensington Oval has largely brought higher first-innings scores than those seen at Warner Park and in Gros Islet earlier in the tournament. Teams will need to total as high as 180-plus to consider their first-innings score competitive.

The weather forecast shows no signs of rain in Bridgetown on matchday. The temperature will be in the early 30 degrees Celsius and the humidity level characteristically high.

BR vs SNP Betting Tips

Barbados seem set for another victory in isolation here and the Partiots their sixth defeat in a row. This is a battle of the teams at the bottom of the standings, but the Royals look the strongest of the two.

The Royals have the leading wicket-taker of the 2023 CPL so far in Holder and, in Fletcher and Lewis, they have some serious potential at the top of the order.

Bet on Barbados as the match favourites. They are priced at 1.80 to win. The Patriots are underdogs at 2.06. Be sure to look at the odds of who will win the match and the toss.
