BMW vs TON Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Jul 22, 2023

The third edition of the Global T20 Canada league will begin again in 2023! It’s been a while since we’ve seen T20 cricket played in Canada, as the season hasn’t been active since 2019, when the Winnipeg Hawks won the league. Later seasons had been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but thankfully it’s back this year and Parimatch has opened the betting.

The biggest changes are that the Winnipeg Hawks are no longer in the league and were replaced by the Mississauga Panthers. Also, the Edmonton Royals have been renamed as the Surrey Jaguars. Otherwise, much is the same, with the season starting on July 20th and the Final taking place on August 6th.

Brampton Wolves vs. Toronto Nationals will be played at the CAA Centre, Brampton, on July 22nd. Keep checking our homepage for all the latest info regarding match news and betting advice.

BMW vs TON Team Previews

Brampton Wolves

It’s a bit harder to judge the teams with such a long gap in between seasons, but there are still some big-name players on each side.

For the batters, the Wolves have brought in Max O’Dowd (Netherlands) and Usman Khan (Pakistan), and all-rounders include Mark Chapman (New Zealand), Colin de Grandhomme (New Zealand), Jan Frylinck (Namibia), Chris Green (Australia), and Hussain Talat (Pakistan). The bowlers are comprised of names such as Jeremy Gordon, Harbhajan Singh (India), Tim Southee (New Zealand), and Logan van Beek (Netherlands).

We expect O’Dowd and Chapman to make the biggest impact on the batting, as they rank 43 and 35, respectively, on the ICC Men's T20I Batting Rankings.

Chapman is one of the most experienced T20 batters with 118 innings and a batting average of 26.17, plus, he had a nice 104* in a T20 international against Pakistan recently. Although he’s regarded as an allrounder, his bowling isn’t incredible and he’s more likely to be used as a batsman. O’Dowd has slightly less T20 experience, but averages 27.80 right now. He was reliable, yet unspectacular, in recent matches for Netherlands in the World Cup Qualifiers.

The bowlers to watch are certainly going to be Jan Frylinck and Tim Southee, who are ranked 69 and 28, respectively, on the ICC Men's T20I Bowling Rankings. Frylinck has a solid T20 bowling average of 19.25 and has bowled well enough recently, while Southee has an average of 25.34 but an overwhelming amount of experience with 238 innings, not to mention good bowling in the IPL in April.

Brampton Wolves Playing 11

Usman Khan, Mark Chapman, Aaron Johnson, Rizwan Cheema, Colin de Grandhomme, Hussain Talat, Logan van Beek, Jan Frylinck, Shahid Ahmadzai, Tim Southee, Chris Green.

Toronto Nationals

To help score runs, the Nationals will rely on batting names like Colin Munro (New Zealand) and Saim Ayub (Pakistan), but there are several allrounders to assist, such as Gerhard Erasmus (Namibia), Faheem Ashraf (Pakistan), Shahid Afridi (Pakistan), Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe), and JJ Smit (Namibia). The bowlers of note are Fazalhaq Farooqi (Afghanistan), Sarmad Anwar (Pakistan), and Zaman Khan (Pakistan).

The batters we’re most interested in will be Raza and Smit, who are placed 80 and 78 on the ICC T20 rankings, respectively. Smit hasn’t been batting fantastically well for Namibia lately, but he’s usually reliable in T20 leagues, with an average of 25.97. Raza has been batting great in recent matches for Zimbabwe, including a century against Netherlands. His batting average for T20 matches is a very solid 24.03.

The Nationals have one of the best-ranked T20 bowlers in the world with Fazalhaq Farooqi, who is 7th on the ICC list. In his last six ODI matches, he bowled great with 10 wickets, and averages 22.88 in T20 leagues, so he’s in form right now and will be a major threat.

Toronto Nationals Playing 11

Hamza Tariq, Colin Munro, Jonathan Smit, Nicholas Kirton, Shahid Afridi, Gerhard Erasmus, Faheem Ashraf, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Zaman Khan, Farhan Malik, Saad Bin Zafar.

BMW vs TON Toss Prediction

Based on previous games, the team chasing has won 13/18 times, so any captain winning the toss may wish to bowl first and use his spinners to get the most out of the pitch. Scores of around 175 are common here.

Pitch and Conditions

This pitch has been great for batsmen in the past and it usually produces high-scoring games. The bounce is fairly even, but spinners have done really well here in the past, while pacers can struggle to find much swing. The outfield is very quick and the boundaries slightly smaller than other grounds.

BMW vs TON Betting Tips

Although the Global T20 Canada league is just getting started, most of these players have been competing in various domestic or international games, so there’s no fear of being out of form. The 10Cric odds look decent for the Wolves.

It’s hard to choose, as we haven’t seen either team play since 2019, and the line-ups were quite different back then. Still, we prefer the Wolves in this matchup, simply because of the batting prowess of O’Dowd and Chapman. There’s also fantastic bowling from Frylinck and Southee, and their collected experience will be tough for the Nationals.

Bet on the Brampton Wolves to win.

    Highest Opening Partnership: Toronto Nationals

The odds are slightly better for the Nationals, but we like them because of Munro. He'll likely pair with Tariq, but Munro had a good start to the season with 78*, and averages 30.42 in T20 competitions. Khan and Johnson isn't a bad opening partnership on the Wolves, but the Nationals are a bit more exciting.

It will be pretty close, but we trust that Chapman should score over 21.5 here. He averages 26.17 in T20 competitions and has scored 30 or more in his last three matches, so we think he's in form. He'll bat in the third spot, so he'll definitely get a chance to score.

Brampton Wolves Top Bowler: Jan Frylinck

Although van Beek was great for the Wolves in the first game with 4 wickets, we believe Frylinck will start to take charge and take more wickets. He had just 1 in the first match, but his best is 6/24 and his bowling average is 19.25 in T20 cricket, so there's a strong chance that he'll be the best bowler again.
