Birmingham Phoenix Women

The Birmingham Phoenix received a 7-wicket drubbing at the hands of the Northern Superchargers in their opening game. The huge loss has adversely affected their NRR too and they are at the bottom of the points table.

It was a poor performance by the batters as Birmingham could manage to score just 118 runs at the end of their inning. Sophie Devine was the top-scorer with 46 runs and looked to be in good form. However, other than her, none of the batters were able to impress. Going forward, batters like Amy Jones and Evelyn Jones will need to step up and score some runs to get their team to a respectable total.

There are a couple of all-rounders on the team including Abigail Freeborn and Erin Burns, but Birmingham is a bit lacking when it comes to depth in batting. Emily Arlott was the leading wicket-taker for the team last season and will lead the pace attack along with Issy Wong.

They will be supported by Devine and Tess Flintoff, while Katie Levick, Charis Pavely, and Hannah Baker are the spinners on the team

Trent Rockets Women

Just like their opponents for Saturday, the Trent Rockets too weren’t off to a great start this season as they failed to chase down the massive 158-run target set for them by the Southern Brave.

The Trent Rockets will hope that its star-studded batting line-up fires in this match and gets them to a big total. Bryony Smith and Lizelle Lee are likely to start the proceedings with the bat.

The team’s biggest strength lies in its middle order as Nat Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur are both capable batters who can quickly turn the game with their clean hitting skills. Sciver-Brunt was the top run-getter for Trent last season. With players like Ashleigh Gardner, Katherine Sciver-Brunt, and Fran Wilson to follow, the team also has plenty of depth in its batting.

There is plenty of scope for improvement as far as the bowling goes, as most of the bowlers were quite expensive in the first match. Bryony Smith will once again feature in the spin attack along with Alana King, while Alexa Stonehouse will spearhead the pace attack.

The bowling might be an Achilles heel for Trent in this match
