BAN vs SL Team Previews

Bangladesh

Bangladesh will be very disappointed with the way it performed in this World Cup. After winning its opening fixture against Afghanistan, the team has lost 6 matches on the trot and became the first team to be eliminated from the race to the semifinals.

Much of the team’s poor run can be attributed to the poor performance of its batsmen. The team is sorely missing the services of Tamim Iqbal, who over the years has lent stability to the top order. Litton Das, who is touted as the poster boy of a new Bangladesh team, has been rather inconsistent in this tournament.

Najmul Hossain Shanto was the top run-getter for Bangladesh in 2023 but has miserably failed to emulate his success on the big stage. Tanzid Hasan has failed to capitalize on the long rope that he is getting from the selectors.

This leaves immense pressure to score runs on the old warhorses, Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim. The story continues with the bowling unit as well. Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed have struggled with the new ball as well as towards the death, while Shakib has picked up just 7 wickets in 6 matches.

Shoriful Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz are the only two bowlers who have had some impact on the proceedings.

Sri Lanka

Just like their opponents, Sri Lanka too is having a torrid time in the World Cup. With just 2 wins in 7 matches, a qualification to the semifinals is just a mathematical probability for them. Sri Lanka will now try and keep themselves in the top 8 to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Right from the outset, Sri Lanka's campaign has been marred by injuries. Wanindu Hasaranga, who is the team’s best spinner, had to miss the entire tournament, while Dasun Shanaka, Matheesha Pathirana, and Lahiru Kumara had to pull out at various stages, further weakening the squad.

The selectors did bring in reinforcements in the form of Angelo Mathews, Chamika Karunaratne, and Dushmantha Chameera, but to no avail. In a new low, the team suffered a 302-run defeat at the hands of India in their latest fixture, which is one of the worst defeats for the team in terms of runs.

However, there are a few silver linings for them. Dilshan Madushanka picked up his first-ever ODI fifer in the match against India and is now the leading wicket-taker of the tournament. Pathum Nissanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama have been consistent performers with the bat throughout the last couple of weeks.

Sri Lanka will need to put in a lot of work if they want to get back to winning ways.

BAN vs SL Toss Prediction

3 of the 4 matches played on this ground in this tournament were won by teams batting first. We, therefore, think that the winner of the toss will likely opt to bat first.

Pitch and Conditions

The Arun Jaitley Stadium offers an excellent batting surface and has already hosted some high-scoring matches in this tournament. It will be a similar case in this match and we can expect plenty of runs. The team batting first will look to get at least 300 runs to feel comfortable.

There is very little grass on the surface and the seamers will need to toil hard to pick up wickets. The spinners will get some grip and turn in the second half.

The weather will be clear with no clouds and the temperature will remain below 30 degrees Celsius.

BAN vs SL Betting Tips

Both teams have performed terribly in this tournament and will be eager to turn things around. We feel that Sri Lanka has an edge as it has a stronger batting line-up and a couple of its bowlers are in better form.

The 4 matches played on this ground in this tournament have seen 6 centuries. As the pitch is excellent to bat on, we can expect a triple-digit score from at least one batsman. The odds are so appealing because both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have performed badly with the bat so far. Worth the risk.

The Arun Jaitley Stadium has pretty short boundaries and the outfield is quick too. Each of the 4 matches played here has seen over 44.5 boundaries scored and we are expecting a similar outcome in this match.
