Barmy Army Team

The Barmy Army outfit is on a roll at the moment having won their last four games in a row. The Barmy Army side played its last match against Sapphires women on 12th April at the same venue. Batting first, the Barmy Army women scored 168 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. The Sapphires women’s team never looked like getting near the target except during some initial overs of their inning. Laura Wolvaardt scored 49 runs in the game from just 32 balls. She was instrumental in the Barmy Army team setting up a good foundation for the later-order batters to capitalize on. She struck 9 fours during her inning. Shemaine Campbelle was also in good touch with the bat for Barmy Army women scoring 30 runs from 17 balls with 5 fours. There were some useful contributions from some of the Sapphires batters such as Babette de Leede, Erin Burns, and Tash Farrant. But none of them could score the runs fast enough and after they got out there was a collapse resulting in the side getting bowled out for 107 runs. Rubina Chhetry who made a decent contribution with the bat also was in devastating form with the ball opening the bowling attack for Barmy Army. She ripped through the Sapphires' batting order picking up a 5-wicket haul for just 11 runs in her quota of 4 overs. 

Falcons Women

The Falcons women's cricket team is going into this game also with a couple of wins. They won the last match against Spirit women by a thumping margin of 9 wickets. Batting first Spirit women scored 137 runs from their full quota of 20 overs. They lost 9 wickets in the process. The Falcons women were in superb form in their reply scoring 140 for 1 in 14.2 overs with as many as 9 wickets to spare. Chamari Athapaththu was at her best providing an all-round performance with bat and ball to secure the Player of the Match award. She scored 35 runs from 32 balls and picked up a 3-fer for 9 runs in the match.

The Spirit women decided to bat first in this game after winning the toss. After losing three early wickets in their inning, there was a good contribution from the skipper Sophia Dunkley. But it was Kerry-Anne Tomlinson who provided a much-needed impetus to the Falcons women's team score. She hammered 65 runs from 46 balls to take the Spirit total to a respectable one. She hit 8 fours and 2 sixes in this inning. The best bowler on the scene for Spirit Women was Chamari Athapaththu. She picked up 3 scalps for just 9 runs in her 4 overs. Sornnarin Tippoch also picked up 3 wickets for 34 runs in her 4 overs. Suzie Bates was also pretty economical in her efforts.

The Falcons' inning was never troubled during this chase. Their top-order batting was in prime form and the first-wicket partnership itself added 77 runs to the total. Chamari Athapaththu was the only wicket to go down in this innings. However, she also contributed 35 runs from 32 balls with 2 sixes and 4 fours. The batting star for the Falcons though was Danni Wyatt. She smashed 76 runs not out from 41 balls with 6 sixes and 7 fours. After the wicket of Chamari Athapaththu, it was Theertha Satish who stood in good stead with Wyatt to take her side home without any nasty surprises on the way.
