AFG vs SL Team Previews

Afghanistan is the underdog of Group B but are no pushovers. Despite suffering a loss in its opening game, we expect them to bounce back and give a good performance in this match.

Openers Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz will hope to give the team a strong start. Zadran is in particularly good form as he scored a brisk half-century on Sunday against Afghanistan. The swashbuckling opening pair will be balanced by the more experienced middle order consisting of Hashmatullah Shahidi, Rahmat Shah, and Najibullah Zadran.

All-rounders Mohammad Nabi, Karim Janat, and Gulbadin Naib can be quite devastating with the bat on their day. The bowling however is an Achilles heel for Afghanistan. While Gulbadin and Fazalhaq Farooqi are good seamers, they lack consistency when it comes to picking up wickets.

The spinners, especially Rashid Khan, will need to put up a good show if Afghanistan wants a shot at winning this game.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has been in excellent form in One Day Internationals of late. After winning the World Cup Qualifiers, they began their Asia Cup campaign with a win over arch-rivals Bangladesh.

Despite missing some of his key players, Dasun Shanaka marshaled his troops well in the opening fixture. It started with a disciplined bowling effort from the bowlers.

Matheesha Pathirana was especially impressive, picking up 4 wickets for just 32 runs. Kasun Rajitha supported him well from the other end. While he went wicketless, Rajitha did manage to dry up the runs to put the opposition batsmen under pressure.

The spinners were right on the money with line and length and the team will expect a similar performance from them.

There are some improvements that Sri Lanka would like to make ahead of this crucial encounter. At least one of the top-order batsmen, Pathum Nissanka, Dimuth Karunaratne, or Kusal Mendis will need to play a big inning.

Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka were in good touch, smashing individual half-centuries and will play an important role in the middle order, while Dhananjaya de Silva and Shanaka will look to give a late flourish with the bat.

AFG vs SL Toss Prediction

The toss doesn’t seem to have much of an impact on the results on this ground. Out of the 70 ODIs played here, 35 have been won while batting first, while 33 were won by the chasing teams. Nevertheless, we expect the winner of the toss to bat first.

Pitch and Conditions

The Gaddafi Stadium offers a flat track and the batsmen will enjoy batting on this surface. The pitch is on the dry side and the seamers will need to work hard to get movement off the pitch. There might be some swing too later on. The average first-inning score is 252 but teams batting first will look to get to at least 300.

The weather will remain warm and dry.

AFG vs SL Betting Tips

Afghanistan has put up some good performances in the past and has some quality players in the squad. The team is capable of giving a good fight but we expect them to fall short of the Sri Lankan challeng.

    Yes (2.10)

The good batting surface provides the opportunity for the batsmen in both teams to score runs. The last match on this ground, which was played on Sunday, saw two centuries being scored and we should see at least one batsman scoring a century in this match.

    Sri Lanka top bowler

    Matheesha Pathirana (3.75)

Pathirana was in prime form during Sri Lanka’s last outing, picking up 4 wickets. He will be able to extract a good amount of pace and bounce from this surface and become the top bowler for Sri Lanka.
