ADSW vs SYTW Team Previews

Adelaide Strikers Women

Mack has been a terrific scorer so far with 330 runs (average of 36.66), although you never quite know which version you’re going to get, as her recent games are all over the place with scores of 14, 71, & 2. Wolvaardt (157) has been a bit disappointing this season, as she’s usually a fast scorer but has had only one game over 20 runs in her last five matches.

Even if Mack or Wolvaardt don’t have great games, there are several more batters to be wary of, including McGrath (188 runs), Patterson (200), Penna (141), and Gibson (86). These batters make steady runs, although it’s rare that you can count on them to make big scores that truly change the outcome of a match.

The Strikers’ bowling attack has been strong and consistent. The recent loss to the Heat was a very close game that was decided by only one ball remaining. We’ve been impressed by Wellington 14/172 (12.28 average) and Schutt (14/217), but Mushangwe (9/184) has been getting better this season and is one to watch. McGrath (5/125) hasn’t been as exciting as she usually is and Gibson (4/170) has just been decent.

Sydney Thunder Women

Athapaththu (10 runs) and Wilson (7 runs) were major reasons for the loss to Perth, as these two are usually reliable scorers and have several games with big totals. We’re hoping that these batters have just had a slight batting slump, as both haven’t scored more than 20 runs combined in their last two games. Athapaththu, especially, has been one of the best batters in the league with 331 total runs this season.

Litchfield hadn’t been giving the team much in her last three games, but it was good to see her back with a good effort of 45 runs, which brings her total to 240. Knight was resting in the Scorchers loss due to a hamstring strain, but she has provided some good performances (168 runs) and will be crucial in this match. You’d like to see a bit more effort from Kapp, however, as 35 runs in 5 innings is pretty poor for a middle order batter.

The Thunder are getting fantastic bowling from Darlington with a total of 16/234 (great average of 14.62), but she clearly needs some help, as the Thunder clearly can’t rely on batting to help them win games. Kapp has 6/220 but she should have reached 10 wickets by now after bowling 28 overs. Johnson (5/146) and Athapaththu (5/133) are decent when they chip in with a few overs, but Bates (2/215) is still the one that needs to improve the most, as she has an awful bowling average of 107.50.

ADSW vs SYTW Toss Prediction

The team batting first has won the last two contests here, so the pitch is just slightly better for batting first and bowling in the second innings.

Pitch and Conditions

The Karen Rolton Oval has had an update recently, so it appears to be more favoured as a balanced pitch. A few WBBL games have been played here recently that weren’t majorly high-scoring games, but it’s going to be a pitch with good swing and speed, but talented batters can still find a way to score.

ADSW vs SYTW Betting Tips

The Dafabet odds suggest that the Strikers are the favourite to win, but we actually prefer the Thunder in this match. Not only are the odds more interesting for Sydney, but they also have more than enough batting firepower to get the job done. They’ll need to be careful about Schutt and Wellington, but it’s about time that Athapaththu and Wilson both had great games.

The Thunder need some bowlers to help Darlington pick up some wickets, so most likely it’ll need to be Kapp who must improve and dismiss tough Adelaide batters like Mack and Wolvaardt.

Bet on the Thunder to win.

The odds aren't too interesting for Athapaththu or Litchfield, and we're not sure if we can trust Knight if she's returning from an injury. It was only a few games ago that Wilson had 83*, so we think she can bring back that form here.

Top Strikers Batter (1st Innings): Katie Mack

Mack's odds are far better than those from Wolvaardt, and Mack is certainly the one batter on the team who can really hit big and constantly find boundaries. She already has 330 runs and is a dangerous player.

First Innings: Chamari Athapaththu To Score 50: Yes

Those are pretty good odds, considering that Athapaththu already has 4 half-centuries this season. She's a fast run-scorer and is great at hitting fours, so it's a fairly safe bet that she can hit a 50 once again.
