Auckland Aces

The Auckland team played its last match in the competition against Otago Volts. This was the 10th game of the competition and was played in Alexandra earlier yesterday. The Auckland team batted first in this contest to score 151 runs for the loss of nine wickets. The Otago Volts chased this target successfully with three wickets to spare. They reached the target in the last over of the game. It was a closely fought game, and the Otago Volts managed to hang onto their nerves for a win.

The Auckland batting effort was supported by several batters in their middle order. But none of them went on to register a big score. The top run-getter for Auckland was their skipper, Robert O'Donnell. He scored thirty-five runs from 38 balls with four fours. Other batters like Ryan Harrison, Sean Solia, Cole Briggs, and William O’Donnell looked good while they lasted but did not score big. The Auckland bowling attack made a spirited defense, with Louis Delport leading the bowling charge with three wickets. Danru Ferns also picked up two.

Wellington Firebirds

The Wellington Firebirds team completed their last game in the competition just a while earlier in Mount Maunganui against Northern Districts. This day/night match saw Wellington Firebirds batting first to score 177 runs for losing eight wickets from their quota of 20 overs. The Northern Districts batters made a valiant attempt to chase the score but fell short by 23 runs in the end. Northern Districts also lost eight wickets during their innings. Neil Wagner once again led the Northern Districts bowling attack.

Wagner picked up three victims from his four overs while giving away just 17 runs from them. Brett Hampton also bowled well for ND, picking up two wickets for 21 runs from his three overs. Tim Pringle also collected a couple of victims for 33 runs from his four overs. Jeet Raval led the Northern District’s batting charge. The Wellington captain scored a superb 62 from 42 balls to propel the team close to the target. Tim Pringle also batted well towards the end of the innings, scoring 30 runs from 17 balls with two fours and two sixes.
