Pakistan went with the opening pair of Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub in the last game, which was their 4th match together. The duo has failed to reach double digits in any of the 8 innings so far, with the highest partnership being 8 runs.

Joe Root to score Over 101.5 runs in the match

Joe Root has been in excellent form in recent months. He has scored 1248 this year at an average of 65.68. He has scored at least 102 runs in 6 of his last 9 Test matches. We are backing him to play another big knock here.

Having faced a humiliating defeat in the first Test match, Pakistan will look to bounce back as it faces England for the 2nd of the 3-match series. The game starts on Tuesday at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

The two teams have faced each other in 90 matches to date. England has an edge with 30 wins while Pakistan has managed to win only 21. 39 matches ended in a draw.

PAK vs ENG Team Previews

Pakistan

Pakistan will be very disappointed with the way things panned out during the first Test match. Despite putting up a massive score in the first innings, they faced a heavy defeat, extending their winless streak at home to 11 matches.

Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub are likely to retain their place at the top of the order. They haven’t been in the best of forms as a pair and will need to turn things around and give the team a strong start here.

Pakistan’s star batsman, Babar Azam has been going through a prolonged patch of poor form. His last Test half-century came almost 2 years back in December 2022. Babar is likely to be rested for this match to give him some time to gather himself.

In his absence, there will be added pressure on Shan Masood, Mohammad Rizwan, and Said Shakeel to score runs. However, it is the bowling department that needs the biggest overhaul for Pakistan.

The team used as many as 7 bowlers, with each of them going at over 4.5 runs per over. Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah managed to pick only 3 wickets between them. In another bit of sour news, Abrar Ahmed is likely to miss this match due to health issues. He may be replaced by Noman Ali in this match.

*UPDATE - Pakistan has dropped Babar Azam, Naseem Shah, and Shaheen Afridi from the playing eleven and has included four spinners in comparison to just one for the first Test.

England

Not even England’s most ardent fans would have predicted such an emphatic win for their team after they conceded 556 runs in the first inning. However, a masterclass from Joe Root and Harry Brook made it seem like a cakewalk as England registered its 4th consecutive win against Pakistan.

While Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett got the dice rolling by scoring brisk half-centuries, the match was all about Joe Root and Harry Brook, who rewrote the record books several times during the course of the match. Root smashed his 6th double-hundred and racked up his highest individual score.

He is now the leading run-getter for England in Test matches.

Harry Brook continued his love affair with Pakistan as he scored his 4th consecutive century against the team. He also became the 6th English batsman to score a triple hundred. Ben Stokes, who sat out of the first game due to an injury, is likely to make a comeback at the expense of either Ollie Pope or Chris Woakes.

In the bowling department, Jack Leach was the team’s best bowler with 7 wickets in the match and will retain his place as the frontline spinner along with Shoaib Bashir. England is also unlikely to tinker with its pace attack consisting of Brydon Carse and Gus Atkinson.

PAK vs ENG Toss Prediction

The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first. WIth the same track being used, batting first should be seen as a huge advantage.

Pitch and Conditions

PCB is set to use the same pitch that was used for the first game for this match as well. The surface for the first match was flat and firm, offering plenty of pace and bounce. However, for this match, you can expect a drier surface that crumbles and takes a lot more turn.

The average first-inning score here is around 365. As the match progresses, the spinners will have a role to play. Batting is going to be a lot more difficult in this match and scores will be lower.

The weather is likely to remain bright and sunny throughout the match with temperatures of between 30-35 degrees.

PAK vs ENG Betting Tips

England was clinical in its performance during the first Test match. Despite conceding more than 500 runs in the first inning, they recovered smartly and scored a memorable win.

England’s batting looks solid and is once again likely to score plenty of runs even against the best Pakistani spinners. On the other hand, Pakistan looks out of depth. While there have been some good individual performances, they have failed to perform well as a team and we expect their woes to continue.

Bet on England to win.
