PAK vs BAN – 31st Match Prediction

Betting Tips

Bangladesh Total 4s Under 22.5

1.83

Bangladesh's batting hasn’t been the best this season. They have managed to hit over 22.5 4s in only 1 of the 6 matches they have played so far. Given the nature of the pitch at Kolkata and the quality of Pakistan's bowling, we think they will find it difficult to score boundariess

Highest opening partnership - Pakistan

1.65

While the opening pairs of both teams aren’t exactly the best, Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das are averaging just 26.86 as a pair, compared to 53.4 for Imam Ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique. We are therefore backing Pakistan to put up a higher opening partnership.

Shaheen Afridi to Take Over 1.5 wickets

1.76

Shaheen Afridi is Pakistan’s top wicket-taker in this tournament with 13 wickets. He has picked up at least 2 wickets in 3 of his last 4 matches. He has an excellent record against Bangladesh, picking up 9 wickets in 3 matches at a strike rate of 17.44. We, therefore, think that Afridi will bowl another good spell in this match.

PAK vs BAN Team Previews

Pakistan

Pakistan had a good start to their campaign as they won their first two matches quite comfortably. However, the loss against arch-rivals India on the 14th of October marked a dramatic turn of fortune for the men in green as they endured a 4-match losing streak, which is their longest in World Cup history.

With the loss against South Africa in the latest match, Pakistan has now slipped to the 6th place on the points table. They will need to treat each of their 3 upcoming matches as a virtual knockout. Even if they win all of them, they will still need to depend on the outcome of the rivals’ matches.

The batsmen have done a decent job so far. Mohammad Rizwan is the top scorer for them with 333 runs. He will once again be a vital cog in the middle order. Abdullah Shafique is a consistent performer in the opening slot and has scored 2 half-centuries and a century in 5 innings.

Babar Azam has picked up good form over the last week, scoring 3 half-centuries in his last 4 innings. However, the form of other batsmen, including Imam Ul-Haq, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Mohammad Nawaz has been patchy.

Shaheen Shah Afridi will lead the attack with the new ball. He has picked up 13 wickets so far. Haris Rauf and Muhammad Waseem Jr. are the other two seamers on the team. Pakistan’s woes with the spin department continue as the lone specialist Usama Mir has been taken for over 7 runs per over.

Bangladesh

Much like Pakistan, Bangladesh too made a winning start against Afghanistan. However, they have since lost 5 consecutive matches and are the first team to be eliminated from the race to the semis.

It is a collective failure as Bangladesh has struggled to perform on all fronts. Right from the opening pair of Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan, to the most experienced bowlers of the team, Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed, the players have lacked the intent and the hunger to win.

Skipper Shakib Al-Hasan, who was one of the top performers during the 2019 World Cup, appears to be a pale shadow of his former self as he has managed just 61 runs and 7 wickets so far. Najmul Hossain Shanto, who is the team’s most successful batsman in 2023, is averaging 16.60 in this tournament.

The old warhorse Mahmudullah is the top-scorer for the team with 218 runs. Shoriful Islam is the most successful bowler for Bangladesh with 8 wickets, while Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman have managed just 8 wickets between them.

In the spin department, Shakib will rely on Mehidy Hasan Miraz to support him at the other end, while Mahedi Hasan provides an extra option during the middle overs.

PAK vs BAN Toss Prediction

Teams batting first have won 19 of the 31 completed matches on this ground. We, therefore, reckon that the team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Eden Gardens is known to provide an even contest between the bat and the ball. The surface is hard with plenty of grass, which allows the ball to come nicely onto the bat. While the average first-inning score here is around 235, teams batting first will look to get at least 270-280 runs to put pressure on the opposition.

Seamers who are disciplined with their line and length will be rewarded.

The weather will remain clear with warm and humid conditions. The temperature will be between 27-32 degrees Celsius.

PAK vs BAN Betting Tips

Both teams are enduring a terrible run and have suffered a string of losses as they enter this contest. We feel that Pakistan has a better chance of winning this match as they have a stronger team.

Bet on Pakistan to win.
