Mumbai Indians

The Mumbai Indians had a disappointing start to the season as they faced a huge defeat at the hands of RCB in their opening fixture.

It was a mediocre batting effort by the 5-time Champions despite a blazing half-century by Tilak Varma. Varma scored 84 runs off just 46 deliveries, which was almost half of the Mumbai Indians’ total score of 171. None of the top and middle-order batsmen were able to support him.

The team will depend on Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan to give them a good start, while Cameron Green and Surya Kumar Yadav will have to hold the fort in the middle overs. The Mumbai Indians have a good depth in their batting thanks to all-rounders like Tim David and Nehal Wadhera, who can get the team to a big total in the final overs.

Rohit Sharma will be even more disappointed with his bowlers as they appeared clueless against the onslaught of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis. His new-ball bowlers, Jason Behrendorff and Jofra Archer were taken for plenty of runs and both remained wicketless.

Piyush Chawla reined in the runs but he too went wicketless as the Indians managed to get just two wickets through Cameroon Green and Arshad Khan. The Mumbai Indians appear to be struggling in finding the right combination at the moment.

The Chennai Super Kings lost their opening game against the Gujarat Titans but they returned to their home ground, the Chepauk Stadium in style by trumping the Lucknow Super Giants in a high-scoring encounter.

The Super Kings will be pinning their hopes on Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devin Conway to give them yet another good start here. The former is in particularly good form as he has scored half-centuries in both of his outings so far.

Shivam Dubey and Ambati Rayudu have gotten a couple of good starts but have failed to convert them into big innings, and the same can be said about the all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali. While the great finisher that he is, we would like to see Dhoni bat a bit up the order so that he gets some time to settle in.

The Super Kings have a pretty well-balanced bowling attack. Tushar Deshpande, RS Hangargekar, and Deepak Chahar make up for a solid pace attack, while Moeen Ali, Mitchell Santner, and Ravindra Jadeja are all big turners of the ball. However, they will need to work a bit on their death bowling, where they are struggling to find a replacement for the experienced Dwayne Bravo.

The seamers have also given away way too many extras, and that is also what the bowling coach will need to work on.
