Bangladesh

Bangladesh was beaten comprehensively in its previous match against Sri Lanka. Najmul Hossain Shanto was the only batter that put up a fight as he top scored with 89 while the rest of the batting crumbled around him. In fact, no one else even managed to cross 20. 

Bangladesh's batting is its biggest weakness and it seems as if its two seniormost players have also regressed in recent times. We are talking about Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim, of course. We would not bet on any one of these Bangladeshi batters and in fact, betting against them would be a great option. 

It should be kept in mind that the surface on which the previous match was played was not very good for batting either. 

The bowling unit for Bangladesh is not one that you want to take lightly. They have improved their wicket-taking abilities pretty significantly and have some quality options. Taskin Ahmed brings the pace while Shoriful Islam and Mustafizur Rahman are brilliant with their cutters. 

Shakib Al Hasan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Mahedi Hasan ensure that Bangladesh will always ask tough questions of Bangladesh. If Bangladesh has to win this match, then the bowlers have to step up. 

Afghanistan

Afghanistan will believe this is the edition of the Asia Cup where it takes the step up and walks into the Super-4. In fact, there is not a single team in front of Afghanistan that it would not back itself against. A very close ODI series where Afghanistan pushed a full-strength Pakistan team to the brink on a couple of occasions would have given the Afghans a lot of confidence. 

The area that Afghanistan has really improved is its batting. The emergence of Ibram Zadran is a huge boost and Rahmanullah Gurbaz also seems to have benefitted from exposure to quality bowlers in T20 Leagues around the world. 

Depth in the batting is a bit lacking and the team is very vulnerable to early wickets. 

Everyone knows that the Afghan bowling will feature three quality spinners including Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Zadran, and Mohammad Nabi but their fast-bowling attack is also not bad. The left-arm pace of Fazalhaq Farooqi and Fareed Khan is threat in all conditions and will challenge the Bangladeshi batters. 

If Afghanistan can manage to get one decent inning from its batters, we think the bowlers will be able to keep the Bangladeshi team in check.

The conditions in Sri Lanka have been a bit different from what is usual. The bowlers have got a lot of help fro the surface with some extra swing first up and the pitch being slightly two-paced. The spinners have not get much turn but they can tie down the batters with some consistent bowling.
