While there is some help for the bowlers on this ground, only 1 of the last 5 matches played here have seen 13 or more wickets fall. This suggests that the batters adjust and are then able to dominate.
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma are averaging close to 65 runs as a pair this season and have also put up 3 stands of 100+ runs. On the other hand, with the departure of Phil Salt. KKR is likely to put up a smaller partnership.
Narine is in excellent form with the bat this season and is averaging 38.41 in 12 innings. His knocks include 3 half-centuries and a century. He has been the top batsman for his team thrice in his last 7 outings. With Phil Salt, who has been another consistent performer for KKR unavailable, Narine has a good chance of becoming the best batsman yet again.
After a long and grueling schedule of the group stages, we now have our top four teams who will clash for the ultimate prize. The Kolkata Knight Riders will take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad for the first qualifier on Tuesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The two teams have faced each other in 26 matches to date. The Knight Riders have a better record with 17 wins, while SRH has managed to win only 9.
This match can be live-streamed on the Jio Cinema app or watched live on the Star Sports Network.
KKR has by far been the most consistent team this season. Despite their last two matches getting washed out due to rain, the team finished quite comfortably at the top of the points table.
It has been a Sunil Narine show all along for KKR this season. The veteran West Indian has brought out his A-game this season and put up an incredible show with the bat, scoring 461 runs at a strike rate of 182.93, making him the leading run-scorer for his team. He has also picked up 15 wickets.
With Phil Salt no longer available, KKR is likely to bring in Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who can be equally devastating.
The batting in the middle order is solid too, as the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Iyer, and Ramandeep Singh have all got some runs under their belt. There is a lot of depth in the batting lineup thanks to the presence of Rinku Singh and Andre Russell in the lower order.
Both of these players are also capable opf striking the big hits from ball one.
Coming to the bowling, Varun Chakaravarthy is the leading wicket-taker with 18 wickets and will be supported by Narine. The seam attack consisting of Harshit Rana, Mitchell Starc, and Andre Russell is pretty solid too.
The pointy end of the IPL 2024 season is here and we think big-name players like Mitchell Starc and Andre Russell will raise their games even more. The key will be Narine and Chakravarthy in the middle, though.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad finished in the bottom 3rd for each of the past 3 seasons. However, they have scripted a brilliant turnaround this season and finished second on the table.
Much of the team’s success can be attributed to the opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. The duo has put up some incredible partnerships and will once again hold the key for SRH. Both these players have played without the fear of failure and have been devastating when they come off.
The performance of the middle order however hasn’t been the best but adding Rahul Tripathi at 3 seems to have helped SRH's balance. SRH chased down 215 without a single run from Travis Head in the previous match. Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Reddy are both in good form and will back themselves against the KKR bowling attack.
SRH also boasts of a strong seam attack consisting of T Natarajan, Pat Cummins, and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. However, the spin attack is almost non-existent for them. Like KKR, SRH has experienced players that will thrive on the big stage.
Pat Cummins has won everything there is to win in the last year or so. He is going to be crucial for SRH with both his bowling and leadership qualities.
The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium is one of the more balanced surfaces in this series. The average first-inning score on this ground is around 175. The quicker bowlers will get some help early on in the game as there is plenty of bounce on offer.
However, as the match progresses, the batsmen will be able to play their shots.
The weather is likely to remain hot through the day with temperatures of over 37 degrees.
Both KKR and SRH deserve their places in Qualifier 1. They have been brilliant throughout the IPL and will look to do the same things that they have done so far. That means we can expect some fearless batting from SRH and some innovative matchups from KKR.
There is very little to separate the two teams but the fact that KKR has not been in action for almost ten days could play against it. SRH, on the other hand, has been improving its team balance and could be peaking at just the right time.
