A team in red-hot form faces a team that was looking good before they were given a beating. Chepauk Super Gillies have been close to untouchable and will want to take advantage of a side which has shown their first signs of weakness this season.

The signs are clear that Chepauk Super Gillies have ramped up the pressure on their opponents. They have five straight victories against Salem. In Salem’s defence, they have started this season better than most.

Leading the charge, Hari Nishaanth has been in superb touch with a 32-ball 50 against Nellai Royal Kings. Captain S Abishiek has had more modest returns with the bat but has been at the front of their three wins in four matches currently. Nidhish Rajagopal has added quality batsmanship to the group with two scores over 50 in his first four innings of TNPL 2025. R Kavin, doubling as keeper and batter, chipped in with 32 runs against Tiruppur.
Power-hitter Sunny Sandhu knows his way around the competition with bat and ball. The all-rounder hit 45 runs and took two wickets against Trichy Grand Cholas earlier in the season. Boopathi Kumar, in limited chances, has been a treat to watch for Tamil Nadu T20 side.
The left-hander has 135 T20 runs at a strike rate over 145. Harish Kumar has given the fans a taste of his all-round qualities with 23 not out and a wicket against Tiruppur in Salem. Mohammed Mohammed had his best batting performance of the tournament in his previous innings with 28 runs not out. He has eight wickets with the ball as well.
M Poiyamozhi had a respectable game against Nellai with tidy bowling figures of one for 28 in four overs. Left-arm spinner Rahil Shah has not necessarily stood out this year. He has three wickets in 2025 though.

Young left hander Mokit Hariharan has a top score of 46 this season, which he scored against Tiruppur in his first game. Skipper Baba Aparajith leads the pack with his 56 off 38 against Dindigul Dragons. Wicketkeeper Narayan Jagadeesan has ten half-centuries at domestic T20 level. Vijay Shankar has smashed 148 runs at an astonishing 180.48 strike rate, including a best of 47.
Swapnil Singh is a power hitter and confident bowler. The all-rounder has one five-wicket haul and two half-centuries in domestic T20 cricket. Specialist batter Sunil Krishna has held his own. After coming in against Dindigul as an impact player, Krishna raced to 32 runs unbeaten off only 18 balls.
S Dinesh Raj is known for some explosive innings with a TNPL career strike rate at just under 170. Abhishek Tanwar has impressed throughout the tournament. He took two wickets in the previous match.
J Prem Kumar’s best bowling stint of the season came against Kovai with two for 29. M Silambarasan has chipped in with wickets regularly. He has at least one wicket in each of his games this year. Lokesh Raj was the undoubtable star of his team’s match against the Dragons when he took five for 13 in only two overs.

The wisest choice at the toss should be to bowl first. Salem Spartans were on the receiving end of a convincing chase. Chasing has produced much better results across most of the games this season.
History tells us that 53 percent of the 34 matches at the ground have been won by the teams choosing to bowl. Second innings conditions throughout the tournament have been better for chasing. That may not be different this time either. Pace has dominated at the venue with more than 60 percent of wickets being from pace bowling.
Thursday’s weather may follow the trend of cloudy conditions. The bigger concern could the 65 percent chance of rain. The players will also feel the heat and humidity at night.
Only one win separates the two teams at the upper end of the league table. They will both be a confident bunch of players after a terrific start to the season. The Salem squad will be slightly fragile though after a disappointing outing against Nellai. Chepauk could pounce on that.
