For the Australians, they will be eyeing a continued era of success after taking the 50-over honours in 2023. They have won the ICC World Test Championship before after beating India in the final of the tournament’s second edition. South Africa has never made it to an ICC World Test Championship before this year.

The head-to-head record over the past five games makes for exciting reading for the neutral fan. Their previous match was a drawn Test in Sydney. Australia won the two matches prior to the draw. South Africa has also won two of those five matches.
South Africa and Australia will meet for a five-day Test match starting Wednesday, 11 June 2025. This ICC World Test Championship Final 2025 will be hosted at the world-famous Lord’s Cricket Ground in England. Eyes in India will no doubt be glued to either the TV broadcast on the Star Sports Network or the live-streaming on the JioHotstar app for this match.

Aiden Markram, with plenty of Test runs and experience under his belt, has almost 3000 runs behind him. In 2024 alone, the opener hit more than 500 runs. Ryan Rickelton has been impressive with his maiden Test double century of 259 against Pakistan in January 2025 at Newlands.
Captain Temba Bavuma will be expected to lead from the front in this massive encounter. The batter is the only batter in the lineup with over 3500 Test runs. He has 24 half-centuries, which is more than the rest of the top six batters combined. David Bedingham in a short stint of just 12 Tests has almost 650 runs with a top score of 110. Wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreynne is an important cog in the Proteas engine behind the stumps. When wielding the blade in Tests, the wicketkeeper-batter has three half-centuries and four centuries.
Wiaan Mulder has proven his versatility with almost 600 Test runs to add to 28 Test wickets. His highest score with the bat is 105 and best figures with the ball are four for 32. Emerging talent Tristan Stubbs is quickly to adapting to being one of the regular all-format players.
Although a short space in the Test format with only 16 innings, Stubbs has hit 500 runs with one half-century and two centuries. Marco Jansen is arguably one of the best, if not the best, current young all-rounders. The tall left-armer has 71 Test wickets with three five-wicket hauls in that list.
Kagiso Rabada remains the spearhead of the bowling attack with over 320 Test wickets, including a frightening 16 Test five-wicket hauls. Despite a brief suspension in early 2025 due to a positive test for a recreational drug, he returns promptly and is set to lead the attack in the upcoming World Test Championship final.
Left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj is the team’s premier spinner. He will be a strong competitor to the spin of Australia’s Nathan Lyon. Maharaj has almost 200 Test wickets with his best bowling figures being a nine-wicket haul. New to the Test scene is Corbin Bosch. The quick bowler has a four-wicket haul in only two Tests.

Australian opener Travis Head was recognized as Australia's Most Valuable Player in 2024 with almost 1500 runs across formats, including a century against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Usman Khawaja is another valuable Test opener alongside Head. He hit a double century in Galle against Sri Lanka. Steve Smith continues to be a record-breaking Test batter.
He has already recorded over 10000 Test runs with an astonishing 36 Test centuries. Marnus Labuschagne, despite a recent dip in Test form, has all he needs to reach the heights of his game again. The South African-born Australian has two double centuries in Tests.
Cameron Green is looking to be his side’s next biggest all-rounder. The tall Australian has made a compelling case for doing well in England with back-to-back centuries for Gloucestershire in the County Championship. Left-handed wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey is handy to have down the batting order too. Carey has nine Test half-centuries, two Test centuries and a best Test score of 156.
Australia's bowling attack continues to be settled and raring to go. Captain Pat Cummins along with Mitchell Starc are two world-class bowlers in the white clothing of Test cricket. Together the right and left-armers have produced almost 700 Test wickets.
Josh Hazlewood has been arguably the most important bowler in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s IPL title-winning campaign. He knows a thing or two about winning trophies. Nathan Lyon remains a cornerstone of the spin department with over 550 Test wickets.

The conditions on day one usually play a huge role in which option becomes the better one for the captain winning the toss. Australia won their previous Test when they bowled first against Sri Lanka. The Australian’s previous Test win against the Proteas was when they opted to bowl first in Melbourne in December 2022.
Good pace and bounce can be expected early on with the new ball and grey skies. Sideways movement may become exaggerated if any rain does arrive during the Test match. The batters may need to work for their runs, but there will be plenty of quality batters who can score under the conditions. England managed a first-innings score of 427 all out in the previous Test at Lord’s.
Throughout the Test match, there should be a significant amount of cloud coverage. Parts of day two and three may be impacted by rain. The chances of rain on those days range from 15 to 20 percent. Temperatures will be cool in the low 20 degrees Celsius.
Where ICC trophies are concerned, the Australians have won as many as nine ICC trophies. They know how to get over the line in ICC finals and would be considered the favourites by a strong margin. WHile both teams have a strong bowling unit, Australia's batting is stronger. Betting against Australia, that too in an ICC event Final, is just not something you do!

SA vs AUS win percentage stands at 66% in favor of AUS.
