Mohammed Shami is India’s leading pacer in this tournament. He has an excellent record in ICC 50-over events, picking up 60 wickets. He has picked up at least 2 wickets in 8 of his last 13 ODIs. He has also picked up 5 wickets in 3 games against Pakistan and we are expecting another good spell from him.
Virat Kohli has an excellent record against Pakistan and averages 52.15 against them. He has scored at least 36 runs in 4 of his last 7 innings against Pakistan, including 2 half-centuries and 2 centuries. We are, therefore, backing him to play a good knock here.
One of the most awaited ODI duel is just around the corner as Pakistan takes on arch-rivals India in the ongoing Champions Trophy. The two teams will clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. There is nothing bigger than India vs Pakistan in the cricketing world. No matter what the context, what the reason, or how lopsided the rivalry has become.
The two teams have faced each other in 135 matches to date. Pakistan has a good record against India, winning 73 games, compared to 57 wins for India. 5 matches ended without any result. In the recent past, though, India has dominated this rivalry including winning 8 out of the previous 9 ODI matches.

The defending champions had a poor start to their campaign as they faced a heavy defeat against New Zealand in the opening fixture. The loss not only cost Pakistan 2 points but has also left a big dent in their NRR.
Given the fast-paced nature of the tournament, if Pakistan slip here, they might be staring at an elimination.
Pakistan was below par with both, the bat and the ball in the series opener. The seamers weren’t able to hit the right lengths with the new ball and gave away plenty of runs throughout the match. They did pick up some early wickets but not having regular spinners cost them heavily.
Pakistan conceded way too many runs and couldn’t recover after that.
The batting lacked intent as Babar Azam, Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan, and Fakhar Zaman all struggled to go after the bowling even as they faced a daunting target. Zaman faced a minor injury in the game but should hopefully be able to recover in time for this match.
It was quite astonishing to see Babar Azam play in the manner that he did and absolutely kill the chase.
Against India, on a surface which is likely to be slow and help the spinners, the hosts need a better performance from their top four batsmen if they want to keep their hopes alive. They will find some solace from the fact that the all-rounders, particularly Khushdil Shah and Salman Agha, were good with the bat.
Nevertheless, there will be plenty of areas that the team needs to work on before the start of this match.
India made a winning start to their campaign as they defeated Bangladesh in their opening game. While the win wasn’t as convincing as the team would have hoped for, it did earn them two important points.
India has a strong batting line-up at its disposal. The team is likely to go with 5 specialist batsmen in the form of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer, while the three all-rounders, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja add depth to the batting.
Shubman Gill looked at his fluent best on Thursday as he scored a century, while Rohit Sharma seems to be settling back into his rhythm. Virat Kohli’s form is a cause of concern for the team but matches against Pakistan usually bring the best out of him. On most days, we think India's batting will have the depth and power needed to get the better of Pakistan.
The bowlers, particularly the seamers, were excellent in the last game. Mohammed Shami led the charge, picking up five wickets, and was ably supported by Harshit Rana. The pitches in Dubai are usually favorable for the slower bowlers and on the evidence of what we saw in India's previous match, the spinners will play a massive role.
Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel could be the two bowlers to watch out for.
In 8 of the last 10 ODIs played here, the team winning the toss has opted to field first. Also, 6 of the last 10 matches have been won while chasing. We are, therefore, expecting that the team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first.
The pitch at Dubai is a bit slow and offers a balanced surface. We can expect a hard-fought contest between the bat and the ball. The batsmen need to respect the new ball and select their shots carefully. It does get slightly easy to bat as the ball gets older but anything over 270-280 can be difficult to chase.
The faster bowlers have usually enjoyed more success here compared to the spinners. The weather is likely to be cloudy with temperatures of between 25 and 30 degrees. Dew is unlikely to be a factor in this game.
We are backing India in winning this match. They have a good understanding of how the pitch plays in Dubai and will be ready to face Pakistan’s pace trio. The team seems to have got a good balance in their playing XI and also has a strong bench. India has also enjoyed great success against Pakistan in recent ICC tournaments.
Bet on India to win.
