SL vs IND Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Aug 04, 2024
Two back-to-back tied matches between Sri Lanka and India were not something that most people expected! There was no Super Over in the ODI and so Sri Lanka has finally avoided defeat to India in this series. There is very little turnaround time between the first and the second match so the pitch could also be a bit slower and more spin-friendly.
Let us take a look at the two teams.
Match Prediction and Cricket Betting Tips for SL v IND 2nd ODI 2024.
SL vs IND Team Previews
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka struggled with the bat and could only reach 230 thanks to some brilliant batting down the order from Dunith Wellalage. We think it is just a matter of time before Wellalage moves up the other order from Sri Lanka. He ended up with 67 runs and was the only batter to score at over 100 strike rate for Sri Lanka.
Pathum Nissanka continued his good run for Sri Lanka in the ODI's and scored yet another 50. Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis, Charitha Asalanka, and Sadeera Samarwickrame all failed to get going. Sri Lanka's batting looked vulnerable and was in serious trouble before being bailed out by Wellalge.
Their lack of power is masked thanks to the low-scoring nature of the surface but the lack of batting depth is bound to come out sooner or later.
Among the bowlers, Sri Lanka's fast bowlers were completely ineffective. It was only when the spinners started to play a major role that the Sri Lankan team was able to mount a comeback. Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Wellalage, and Charitha Asalanka did the bulk of the damage.
We would be happy to bet on one of Hasranga or Wellalage to be the highest wicket-taker for Sri Lanka in this match as well.
Sri Lanka Playing 11

India
India had the first match in the bag but seemed complacent and let winning positions go. They had Sri Lanka on the mat at 101-5 before allowing them to get to 230. Similarly, India was 75 for no loss and 130 for 3 before losing a clutch of wickets. Even at the very end, India was 230 for 8 before losing two wickets in two balls!
These things happen, though, and do not take away from the fact that India was the superior team.
India's batting firepower, especially the top order was visible when Rohit, Gill, and Virat were batting. All three of them looked at ease with Rohit in particular able to clear the boundaries with ease. Shreyas Iyer also looked in good form before getting out against the run of play.
With KL Rahul, Washington Sundar, Shivam Dube, and Axar Patel all in the playing eleven. India has a batting lineup till number 8. There may have been a collapse in the first match but that is not something that you are going to see too often.
We are backing India's batters to adapt and do better in the upcoming match. The bowling lineup performed quite well in the first match. Siraj got an early wicket, Axar Patel was excellent, and Shivam Dube showed he could be a handful as well. Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, and Washington Sundar were good but they will all feel they can be better.
The needless runs given away at the end proved to be the difference.
India Playing 11
Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Washington Sundar, Shreyas Iyer, Lokesh Rahul, Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh.
SL vs IND Toss Prediction
The team that wins the toss is likely to want to bat first. The short turnaround in the matches could mean a surface that is much harder to bat on. That could lead to a much harder time for the team batting second.

Pitch and Conditions
There is more rain predicted in Colombo on match day. That is not something we want to hear and increases the chances of a reduced contest or even a washout. The good thing about Colombo is its drainage system that ensures the match gets underway very quickly after the rain stops.
The pitch was slow, spin-friendly, and difficult to score off in the first match. We think something similar is likely in store for the second match. In fact, it could actually be slower and even more difficult to bat on. 250 looks to be very competitive in such conditions.
SL vs IND Betting Tips
We are going to bet on India to win. They were sloppy and almost out of touch in the first match. They let a match that they should have won easily let through their fingers. Now, with a must-win match ahead of them, we expect India to ramp up its intensity.
Bet on India to win.
